Respite Care with Lark in the Park.

Each year Lark in the Park Charitable Trust provides a holiday for youngsters with special needs.  2008 we are returning to Broadstone Warren.

Why?

  • Caring for a young person with special needs can be draining on all the resources of both the carer and the family
  • It gives the carer and family to recharge their batteries and also 'time out'
  • Enables the young person to have a break from their family too
  • Enable the young person to try something new and meet new and old friends

2007 at Broadstone Warren - report by Barry Godden, Holiday Co-ordinator.

We took 19 young adults (4 girls, 15 boys) to Broadstone warren for a weeks activity holiday. First job was to find our rooms, eat dinner and get to know each other. Day two everyone was up bright and early and that morning we split into two groups for our first activities (low ropes and a small climbing wall.) That evening most of us including staff donned sumo outfits and took part in some friendly sumo wrestling.

The rest of the holiday continued to be as fun with activities that included High ropes, Grass sledging, abseiling and high wall climbing. In between the planned activities there was always loads going on with football being one of the main past times, we even joined up with a scout group for a couple of derby matches.

We had great weather and made the most of it by staying outside for much of the day, only coming in for our meals, which were always devoured. We also had our regular day out, which was a day trip to Hastings beach for lunch then into sea life centre and finished off with ice-cream.

Everyone said how much they enjoyed themselves and I had a lot of requests to come back next year.

CAN'T WAIT!!!
