Mike Hooper (Chairman) and committee of the Lark in The Park Charitable Trust and Eastbourne Carnival Committee said, “It is with deepest regret and sadness we have to announce that our plans to rejuvenate Eastbourne’s carnival in 2008 are needing to be put on hold. When we originally had the idea we underestimated the amount of current government legislation, new licensing laws and time scales needed to organise such a large-scale event.
In the light of this we are already working with Eastbourne Borough Council's Events, Highways and Licensing Departments to ensure that everything is in place for a carnival in 2009, which will coincide with our tenth anniversary.
As there will be no carnival this also means we will not be able to hold a carnival queen competition, however, that will also be back for the carnival next year.
We are still planning on holding a Funday and a flower show in June, and more information about these events and others will be announced soon.
We would like to thank everyone who has offered their help this year for the procession, and unless otherwise instructed we will keep their offer on file for next year and any other volunteers who wish to put their names forward.
Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused but the health and safety of all involved is paramount and we hope to see you all next year. Our 10th birthday!
Eastbourne Carnival day is being planned for Saturday June 27th 2009
